A.        Characteristics

a)      The Boerboel must have a good temperament.

b)      The Boerboel must be intelligent with a steadfast and balanced nature and be faithful to his master until death.

c)      The Boerboel must possess the characteristics of a good watchdog and be loving towards his owners with a special liking for children.

d)      The Boerboel must possess good self-confidence.

B.        General Appearance

a)      The Boerboel must be large, solid, strong and muscular.

b)      The Boerboel must be a well-balanced dog in all respects.

C.        Conformation

a)      The Head:

                                           i.)         Must be large and strong.

                                          ii.)        Must have a typical Boerboel appearance.

                                         iii.)        Must be symmetrical and balanced in relation.

                                         iv.)       Must be flat between the ears.

                                          v.)        The bridge of the nose of the male dogs may be a maximum length of 10cm and that of the bitches 8cm.  The nose must be straight with no upturn.

b)      The Eyes:

                                           i.)         Must be well-formed.

                                          ii.)        Must be pigmented.

                                         iii.)        Must not bulge.

c)      The Ears:

                                           i.)         Must be medium and v-shaped and in relation to the rest of the head.

                                          ii.)        Must fall naturally against head.

d)      The Mouth:

                                           i.)         The jaw must be strong, straight and broad.

                                          ii.)        The jaws must shut well. The ideal is a scissors bite. The maximum difference allowed between the jaws is 1cm.

                                         iii.)        The lips must be pigmented and not too fleshy and must cover the teeth.

e)      The Neck:

                                           i.)         Must be strong, muscled and in relation to the rest of the dog.

f)       The Forequarters:

                                           i.)         The chest must be strong, muscled and broad in relation to the dog and its body.

                                          ii.)        The front legs must be straight, sturdy and strong.

                                         iii.)        The shoulders must be strong, muscled and supple.

                                         iv.)       The elbows must not stand out or bend in so that the dog has a comfortable movement of his front legs.

g)      The Body:

                                           i.)         The length must be in relation to the size of the dog.

                                          ii.)        It must form a balance between the chest and the hindquarters.

                                         iii.)        The back must be strong and straight.

h)      The Hindquarters:

                                           i.)         Must be strong and muscled.

                                          ii.)        The hindquarters must be well-formed.

                                         iii.)        The hind legs must be sturdy and strong.

                                         iv.)       The hocks must not bend in or out.

i)        Feet:

                                           i.)         Must be well-cushioned and not sharp.

                                          ii.)        Must be in relation to the rest of the dog.

                                         iii.)        Must not turn out or in.

j)        The Tail:

                                           i.)         It must form a unity with the dog – must not be too high or too low or too sloping or too curved.

k)     The Coat/Colour:

                                           i.)         The coat must be short and smooth.

                                          ii.)        Any colour is acceptable providing strong pigmentation is present.

l)        Movement:

                                           i.)         The movement of the dog must be powerful.

                                          ii.)        The movement of the dog must be in line front to rear, when seen from the front or the rear.

m)    General:

The general picture of the dog must be that of a typical Boerboel.

No sign of any other breed of the dog must be seen in the picture.
